Aanand L. Rai helmed ‘Zero’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in lead roles is nearing to its end at the box office as the movie crosses its third weekend. The film which hit the screens on December 21 did not come up with good numbers for an SRK film and the collections were dismal. Directed by Aanand L. Rai, the movie sees Shah Rukh Khan essaying the role of a dwarf man for the first time, who romances a differently abled scientist played by Anushka Sharma and is love-struck by a popular heroine played by Katrina Kaif.
According to the latest report by BoxofficeIndia.com, in its third weekend, the film has managed to collect Rs 50 lakh in seventeen days at the box office. The film has managed to rake in a total of Rs 88.58 crore after seventeen days. The film is expected to close around Rs 89 crore.
The plot of the film revolves around Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), a vertically challenged man who squanders his father’s money and is besotted by superstar Babita Kumar (Katrina Kaif). He falls in love with a scientist, Aafia (Anushka Sharma) who is affected by cerebral palsy. Their love story travels from India to the US and all the way to the outer space.
Directed by Anand L. Rai, ‘Zero’ stars Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. The film also stars Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sheeba Chaddha, Jaipreet Singh and Brijendra Kala in supporting roles. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer continues to struggle at the theatres, Even at the end of its second weekend, this Aanand L Rai directorial has not managed to cross Rs 100 crore. On the contrary, Ranveer Singh’s Simmba is making big money at the box office.
Aanand L Rai directorial Zero was touted to be one of the biggest films of 2018. However, the movie has not been able to live upto the expectations of the audience and critics. Blame it on the negative reviews or poor word-of-mouth promotions, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer failed to work its magic at the box office and has been struggling to maintain its hold ever since its release. Also, with Ranveer Singh-Rohit Shetty’s Simmba making big money, Zero is only falling off the radar.
Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Zero’ is failing to catch up with other releases at the box office. Zero has raked in around Rs 50 lakh in its third week, pegging the total collection since the Aanand L Rai-helmed film hit the screens at Rs 88.58 crore. Zero, which also stars actors Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in lead roles, has not been able to cross the Rs 100 crore mark, whereas, Rohit Shetty’s film Simmba, starring Ranveer Singh, is already on its way to enter the Rs 200 crore club. Simmba was released a week after Zero.
It seems Zero, which was billed as the 2018’s biggest film, could not live up to the expectations of the moviegoers. Zero that released on December 21 received negative reviews from critics and had to face the onslaught of negative word of mouth. In the film, Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of a vertically challenged man, who takes a liking to a scientist with cerebral palsy played by Anushka Sharma.
Zero began its journey at the box office, minting only Rs 19.35 crore on its first day. It then went on to collect Rs 54.60 crore in the first weekend. Zero failed to improve its collections at the box office. While the first week collection was pegged at Rs 82.60 crore, Zero could add only a few crores to its overall collection of Rs 88.85 crore till the third week.
Zero, which released on December 21, was toutted as Shah Rukh Khan’s most expensive film to date. It has, however, not been able to cross the Rs 100 crore mark even after the end of its second week. According to Bollywood Hungama, Zero collected Rs 88.85 crore by the end of its Day 14.
Zero started its box office journey on an average note. Opening at Rs 19.35 crore on its Day 1, it collected Rs 54.60 crore by the end of its first weekend. The film failed to show any significant growth over its first and second weeks and continued its downfall, despite the Christmas holiday (December 25) and an extended weekend around the New Year. While its first week collection stood at Rs 82.60 crore, it barely earned much and made Rs 88.85 crore by the end of its second week.
Zero received mixed reviews from the critics. The Indian Express reviewer Shubhra Gupta had mentioned in her review, “The trouble is that the film doesn’t quite know what to do with its characters once it has them. The writing is all over the place, and everything is so choppy, that the characters all appear to float in their own bubbles, without any palpable connection with each other: they talk at each other, not to each other.”
There were huge expectations from Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero. After his last film, Jab Harry Met Sejal flopped at the box office, Zero was touted to the film which was supposed to bring him back at the top as far as box office is concerned. The movie had all the trappings of being a blockbuster with great music, well-received trailers and promos and a fresh concept. But, it failed to please most of the film critics as well as the audience.
Zero had polarised reviews but it was the audience that rejected the movie. After opening to Rs 20.14 crore, Zero failed to grow over the weekend and the fate of the costliest Shah Rukh Khan film till date was sealed. Even though it’s still running in few theatres across the country and is nearing its dismal run, the movie has failed to even go past Rs 100 crore mark. But, that didn’t stop this Shah Rukh Khan starrer to make to the list of top ten highest grossing films of 2018.
According to a report in Box Office India, Zero has surpassed the worldwide figures of Rajkummar Rao starrer blockbuster Stree at the worldwide box office by making Rs 178 crore. On the other hand, by making more than Rs 300 crore globally, Ranveer Singh’s Simmba is the third highest grossing film of the last year.
Even though Rohit Shetty’s Simmba was releasing a week after Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, that didn’t stop many netizens and SRK fans from trolling Karan Johar on social media. Karan Johar is considered as one of the closest friends of Shah Rukh Khan so he had been subjected to a lot of trolling on social media. Recently, we caught up with Rohit Shetty to talk about the success of Simmba and asked him if he thinks that had he released the movie on December 21, alongside Zero, his movie would’ve made even more money than it’s already making.
Rohit said that he doesn’t think that way and added that even after releasing on December 28, Simmba has made a huge dent at the box office. He further added that he is happy Simmba didn’t release with Zero as it would’ve been like a bloodbath in media. Talking exclusively to ZoomTV.com, Rohit said,
